New servers rarely fail because the gameplay is bad; they fail because nobody finds them, or because the first players leave an empty server. These steps help with both.
1. Be ready before you advertise
- Keep the server online all the time. Lists, including CraftRank, show uptime, and players leave servers that are often down.
- Have a clear idea in one sentence: “Survival with towns and a player economy”, not “a bit of everything”.
- A short tutorial or spawn signs, so new players know what to do in the first five minutes.
2. List your server everywhere
Server lists are where players look for new servers. Add your server to CraftRank for free, pick the right game modes and language, and write a real description in your own words. Make a 468×60 banner and a colourful MOTD: they are the first things players see.
3. Use votes and rewards
Lists are ranked by votes. Set up Votifier so players get an in-game reward for voting every day, then remind them in chat. Test it with our Votifier tester; the setup is in the documentation. Ask happy players to leave a review on your server page as well.
4. Launch on a date
A launch date gives people a reason to come at the same time, so the server feels alive from day one. Add the date to your server on CraftRank: your page gets a countdown and you appear under “Launching soon” on the home page.
5. Build a community outside the game
- A Discord server with announcements, polls and events.
- Short videos of your best features on TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Instagram.
- Invite small creators to play; they often like new servers to make content about.
- Show your live status and vote button on your website with our widget (Dashboard → Integrations).
6. Measure what works
Your dashboard on CraftRank shows players per day, busiest hours, votes and page views. If a video or event brings players, you will see it there, so you can do more of what works.
